Park History
For more than 25 years (1918 to 1943), the Maple Dairy, operated by Battista Venera and his family, served the communities of Roslyn, Ronald, South Cle Elum and Cle Elum. From a meager beginning of 20 milk cows, he built his herd to 90. Each summer, after the morning milking, the cows were herded out to open rangeland behind his farm, the area Suncadia stands today. Battista became an icon to the locals and a mentor to the local Roslyn boys who worked at his dairy. Mr. and Mrs. Battista Venera gave generously to the community and left a legacy by their example as hard working, kind and dedicated citizens. Suncadia is honored to dedicate this park as “Battista’s Meadow” in memory of Battista Venera and his family.
